Kohl Rabi and Ham Gratin

Serves: 4 – 6


2 Kohl Rabi

100 g shredded ham or bacon

1 1/3 cups milk

3 tbsp plain flour

salt/pepper to taste

pinch of nutmeg

1/3 cup breadcrumbs

cup grated cheddar cheese






Cook the kohl rabi in boiling water until just tender then drain. 

Heat 1 cup milk, combine remaining milk and flour to make smooth paste then add to hot milk, whisking constantly until sauce bubbles and thickens. Remove from heat and add cheese, ham and seasonings. 

Place the kohl rabi in a greased oven-proof dish, pour over cheese sauce, sprinkle with breadcrumbs. 

Bake in oven preheated to 190 C for 30 minutes or until bubbling and golden.
